Bore Tide
Early May 2000

We caught the video footage of this bore tide while hiking about 3000 ft above the highway on Bird Ridge.

Turnagain Arm Bore Tide:

The
Turnagain Arm is well known for having one of the world's fastest tides with a height change ranging more than 33 feet in 10 minutes. This height change and speed produces bore tides which are a wall of water reaching up to five + feet in height at any one point.

Viewing a bore tide is a unique experience and well worth a trip south of Anchorage to the Turnagain Arm. IF you don't happen to be visiting during the widest tide changes, you always have the opportunity to view the mountain goats and big horn sheep along the route to Girdwood.

We hope you enjoy the quick time video!
